Woman shot by crossbow, arrest made month later

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 24-year-old woman was arrested Thursday in connection with a November assault that left a Portland woman seriously injured after she was struck in the neck with a crossbow arrow.

The injury happened at Sellwood Riverfront Park on Nov. 5 shortly before 8:30 a.m. When police arrived, officers learned Cecilia L. Bruinsma, 24, was involved in a verbal dispute with the victim. During the dispute, officers believe Bruinsma fired a bolt from a handheld crossbow at the victim. The bolt struck and injured the victim in the neck.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

According to officials, Bruinsma left the scene in a gold Honda Civic with a man. They searched the area, but didn’t find Bruinsma.

After her arrest Thursday morning, Bruinsma was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of 2nd-degree assault.
