PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two men were convicted and sentenced to prison this week after they were arrested for their part in robbing about $400,000 in jewelry from the Ben Bridge Jewelers Store in Washington Square Mall, the Washington County District Attorney’s Office announced on Wednesday.
Brandon Sullivan and Darereon Newton were convicted in separate court trials. Sullivan was also convicted for the high-speed chase that followed the smash-and-grab. He was sentenced to 34 months in prison. Newton was sentenced to 15 months.
Shakira Karriem was also arrested and plead guilty to first-degree aggravated theft. She spent 60 days in jail and was sentenced to probation for 2 years.
Tigard Police said Ben Bridge Jeweler was broken into by up to 5 suspects who used sledgehammers to smash the cases and grab the jewelry just before 1 p.m. The whole incident, the district attorney said, last about a minute. The suspects were mainly after Rolex watches; police recovered some of them.
The other vehicle and other suspects got away.
