PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Diego Valeri had a record-breaking season for the Portland Timbers. His teammates, as well as the club’s supporters, took notice.
Valeri was named the team’s Player of the Year after leading the team with 21 goals, including a record-breaking stretch where he scored a goal in 9-straight games. Valeri set a record this year for most goals by a midfielder, beating the previous mark by 3 goals. He also recorded the most combined goals and assists cross the MLS, finishing with 32.
Valeri was also named to the MLS Best XI team on Thursday, which recognized the best players at each position across the league.
It’s the second time since 2014 Valeri has earned the award.
