JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. (KOIN) — A vehicle — reported stolen nearly 27 years ago — was found by a man walking in a wooded area Tuesday afternoon.

The man called dispatch after finding an overturned vehicle down a steep embankment while following his dog off Abbott Prairie Road — a little more than a mile north of the intersection with Elk Creek Road.

The car was identified as a 1979 Porsche 924 coupe with registration tags that expired in 1991. It was positioned at the base of a cliff, making it nearly impossible to see from the road above. Further investigation found that the Porsche was reported stolen on Jan. 20, 1991 from the parking lot of the Southside Cinema in Medford.

While initial reports said human remains were found near the car, officials confirmed Wednesday that no human remains were found in or around the car. Some bones on the ground were determined to be a deer.

Due to the car’s location on a steep, rugged terrain, officials are working to determine the best course of action to remove it.
