PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Since its Nov. 3 release, “Lady Bird” has been receiving nothing but glowing reviews from critics and viewers — and now, it’s broken the record for best-reviewed movie on Rotten Tomatoes.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Lady Bird has a 100% “Tomatometer” rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 170 “Fresh Reviews” and zero “Rotten Reviews.” According to Rotten Tomatoes, “Toy Story 2” — released in 1999 — set the record with 163 Fresh Reviews.

After hearing about the new record, Saoirse Ronan — who plays Lady Bird — told Rotten Tomatoes,

This is completely amazing and so incredibly appreciated by the entire team that made Lady Bird. We put our heart and souls into this movie, and the last step of this deeply collaborative art form of filmmaking is giving the film to the audience and the film critics. That there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true. Thank you to everyone who has seen the film and has written about it so thoughtfully. We are all on cloud nine and using our tomato emoji more than we ever thought possible.”

The movie is directed by Greta Gerwig and is a coming-of-age film which focuses on a California teenager trying to navigate her life and relationships with her parents and friends.
