According to officials, 21-year-old Emory Page Coates of Philomath was driving northbound on Highway 99W in a Jeep Grand Cherokee when she attempted to pass a recreational vehicle. Coates drove into the southbound lane and attempted to get back into her lane when she lost control of her car.

The Jeep spun back into the southbound lane and collided head on with a southbound Saturn SL — driven by 43-year-old Tonya Renee Moore of Molalla.

Coates was able to get out of her car after it came to a rest. No other passengers were in the Jeep.

Moore and a 16-year-old boy in the Saturn were pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old girl was also in the Saturn and was taken to a hospital in Corvallis with serious injuries.

Coates also suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

According to the initial investigation, it’s doesn’t appear drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
