EUGENE, Ore. (KOIN) — A 39-year-old man was arrested in Eugene after he fled from an Oregon State Police Trooper and crashed his car Wednesday afternoon.

Oregon State Police said a trooper attempted to stop Harold Deandre Jones who was driving in excessive speed on I-5 near milepost 195. Jones initially stopped, however, when the trooper approached his car, he reportedly fled northbound — reaching speeds faster than 100 miles per hour while passing holiday traffic on the right shoulder.

The trooper didn’t pursue Jones, but found him and the car rolled over at milepost 199 in Coburg.

OSP said Jones was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital before being booked into Lane County Jail for attempt to elude police by vehicle, DUII-controlled substances, reckless driving, reckless endangerment and driving while suspended.

The incident caused the right lane of the freeway to close for 30 minutes while officials removed the car.
