MARION COUNTY, Ore. (KOIN) — An 89-year-old woman was found dead inside a vehicle police found submerged in the Willamette River Tuesday night.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said a ferry boat operator located the submerged vehicle around 8 p.m. near the Buena Vista Ferry ramp. A dive team wasn’t brought in to recover the body and vehicle until Wednesday morning due to the dark and cold conditions Tuesday night.

The sheriff’s office said investigators believe Anne Marie Rose, of Salem, accidentally drove into the water at the entrance to the ferry ramp.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to send its condolences to Ms. Rose’s family and thank the below agencies for their assistance in the recovery of Ms. Rose and her vehicle,” the press release said.
