ALBANY, Ore. (KOIN) — A pedestrian was killed early Tuesday morning after a car hit her as she crossed the road.

Linn County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the crash on Seven Mile Lane and Columbus Street near Albany shortly after 6:30 a.m, while it was still dark.

Anna Dirkji Evan, 77, was walking across the street from her house to get the newspaper when she was hit. She died immediately at the scene.

The driver, a 24-year-old Albany man, cooperated with investigators but there is no reason to believe impairment was a factor. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said “This is an unfortunate incident for all involved and deputies are still investigating the factors involved in the crash.”

Seven Mile Lane was closed from Columbus to Three Lakes Road while deputies conducted their investigation.
