“He was just a great guy,” said his cousin.

“He was always a go-to-guy,” said one neighbor.

“He’d give you the shirt off his back,” said his girlfriend.

And on Saturday night, after deputies said a 17-year-old shot him, 39-year-old Terry Richard McGee was gone, a fact that didn’t feel real to friends and family 24 hours later.

“It really hasn’t set in until I saw the pictures,” a neighbor, who wished to be anonymous, told KOIN 6 News. “I didn’t want to believe it was real, then it hit right then.

“He was the dad of the block here and everyone has a special place in their heart for him.”

A teenager from Milwaukie is in custody for killing McGee. The shooting closed Hwy 99 E in Oak Grove for hours Saturday night.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Southeast McLoughlin and Concord. When deputies arrived they found McKee already dead laying on the ground. Multiple witnesses saw the incident, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody hours later and authorities do not believe there is any further public safety issue. The investigation into the case continues.

McKee’s memory will also continue living.

“He deserves to be remembered for what an awesome guy he was,” his cousin, Teresa McKee Allen, said, “how giving and caring.”
