1 arrested after deadly stabbing outside Stayton

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was stabbed to death in east Marion County Monday night.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said deputies found 70-year-old Jere Moody in the 18000 block of North Santiam Highway, east of Stayton. He was taken to a hospital but later died.

Officers say they arrested 26-year-old Samuel Taylor and charged him with murder.

According to the probable cause document, another person was in the house with Moody and Taylor. She said she left them alone and then heard Moody yelling for help. When she went into the room, she saw Taylor holding a knife and standing over Moody, who was bleeding.

No other details or a motive have been released.
