PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Four people escaped serious injury on Friday after their home caught fire in the area of Northeast 52nd and Northeast Alberta Court.

The fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. Friday in the 5000 block of NE Alberta Court.

A spokesperson with Portland Fire and Rescue said when the fire company arrived, the house “fully involved” with heavy fire coming across the entire front of the structure and starting to spread to a house on the east side. The house to the east suffered significant burn damage, but crews were able to prevent it from actually catching on fire.

Making the fire more difficult was a power line had burned through and draped across a metal fence, possibly energizing it, and a gas meter had been damaged by the fire and was emitting flames.

No injuries were reported.

KOIN 6 News spoke with Bobby Wantz who lives near by and took dramatic video of the fire. He said he was woken up to the sounds of popping.

“It was roaring,” Wantz said as he described the fire when he arrived.

The cause of this fire is still under investigation. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the occupants who were displaced with nothing but the clothes they managed to escape the fire in.
