KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (KOIN) – Prosecutors say a 29-year-old man walked into a home and stole a baby that was sleeping on its mother’s chest.

Brennan Scott Stone is charged with attempted murder, burglary, kidnapping, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

According to court documents, Stone entered a home in the 2700 block of Summers Lane on Wednesday through an unlocked backdoor where he snatched a 13-month-old child who was sleeping on his mother’s chest.

Stone tried to leave the home but was chased and confronted by the child’s mother.

During the confrontation, Stone grabbed a steak knife and stabbed the mother in her upper chest while holding the child, according to court documents.

After stabbing the mother, Stone fled the residence, with the child, and ran to the next door residence where he climbed a ladder to the roof.

While he negotiated with police, Stone threatened to kill the child.

He was eventually taken into custody and the child was not hurt.

KOBI-TV reports that Stone was a stranger to the child and his mother.

Stone is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday afternoon.
