VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — Surveillance cameras captured several men stealing electronics from Aaron’s stores in Washington and Oregon in recent weeks, and on Tuesday one of them who returned to steal more was chased off by employees.
The general manager of Aaron’s on SE Mill Plain Boulevard told KOIN 6 News workers immediately recognized the suspect when he showed up at the store again.
“When things like that happen it’s scary for both customers and employees,” general manager Veronica Fridley said. “But there’s not much I could have done. I stepped outside where he wouldn’t notice me and called the police.”
Fridley said she wasn’t sure if the man caught on, but soon after she called police he walked out of the store. That’s when she said she started to follow him.
“I followed him to his car, which is when police pulled up,” she continued. “He just backed up super close… zoomed out of our parking lot.”
The suspect got away in a dark blue Subaru with license plates that didn’t match the car. Police determined it had been stolen.
After Tuesday’s incident, Fridley said she doesn’t suspect the thieves will return to her store anytime soon, but it’s possible they could hit another Aaron’s store nearby.
The man who got away from the Vancouver store this week is said to be one of several suspects wanted in a string of burglaries. The group is accused of stealing cell phones and laptops from stores including the Aaron’s on NE Sandy Boulevard.
Anyone with information on the suspects’ identities should call police.
