PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The white supremacist accused of killing a black man in what officials describe as a racially motivated murder is now charged with second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon for an unrelated incident.

Gresham Police say Russell Orlando Courtier will be arraigned on Wednesday after the grand jury filed a two count indictment against him.

The assault happened September 4, 2015 near the intersection of NE Hogan and Division. Officials say Courtier used a pool ball to hit a man in the head. The victim was found suffering from a head wound.

According to police, Courtier and the victim got into an altercation. Both men were likely under the influence of intoxicants.

Courtier pleaded not guilty to the murder of Larnell Bruce. The 19-year-old was killed when Courtier ran him down in a Jeep. Police believe the murder was racially motivated.

Courtier remains in custody.
