PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two kids were injured and another died in a crash on Hwy 18 near Burns on Thursday.

A 15-year-old boy from Burns was driving when he drifted off the shoulder, over corrected and caused the pickup truck to roll several times. The driver died at the scene.

The driver and 2 passengers, a 14-year-old and a 10-year-old, were not wearing their seat belts and were thrown from the truck. The 10-year-old in the back seat is the brother of the driver.

The passengers were taken to hospitals for treatment. The 14-year-old was critically injured and the other boy sustained non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Oregon State Police said they are investigating distracted driving as a factor in the crash. They also learned that the teen did not have permission to drive the truck.
