CENTRAL POINT, Ore. (KOIN) – Sheriff Corey Falls is stepping down as Jackson County Sheriff at the end of the year.

Falls made the announcement to staff Wednesday afternoon, KOIN 6 News has learned.

Falls recently accepted a position to work at the City of Gresham as the Director of Police Services and 21st Century Policing.

“The new position will focus on the strategic planning and implementation of 21st Century policing,” Falls said in a prepared statement. “This direction is an innovative approach to law enforcement that I am excited to be a part of.”

Falls leaves the sheriff’s office on what he describes as “a clear path to providing a professional level of service to the citizens of Jackson County.”

He adds that “…we are in a new era of policing. Law enforcement agencies are realizing what was done in the past can be done differently today.”

The City of Gresham did not immediately respond to questions about the new position.
