PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The man who caused the death of Kona the dog was sentenced to prison on Wednesday morning.
Francisco Vincent Gonzalez pleaded guilty on October 4 to charges of first-degree theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, first-degree animal abuse, possession of meth, possession of a stolen vehicle, second-degree animal abuse, second-degree animal neglect and animal abandonment. He also pleaded no contest to one count of ID theft.
He was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison. He will get credit for the 7 months he has already served.
Gonzalez was arrested in April after police say he stole a car in SE Portland with a dog named Kona inside. Kona was later discovered dead inside the abandoned car.
Kona’s owner was in court on Wednesday for the sentencing.
