Man barricaded in Johnson Creek Rentals surrenders

Officers chased suspect through neighborhood before he ran into business

MILWAUKIE, Ore. (KOIN) — A man who holed up in a Milwaukie building Wednesday afternoon surrendered around 5:20 p.m.

Police surrounded the building after the man person barricaded himself. Officers initially received a report of a suspicious person in the area of SE 43rd Avenue and Howe Street around 1 p.m., according to Milwaukie Police Dept.

“The person was concerned someone was prowling around their house and when officers found the subject and contained him he originally lied to police about his name and then took off,” Milwaukie PD Detective Tony Cereghino told KOIN 6 News.

The suspect rode his bike through the neighborhood and crashed into a police car, Cereghino said. He then reportedly ran into Johnson Creek Rentals near SE 43rd Avenue and Johnson Creek Boulevard where he is currently hold up.

No employees were taken hostage, according to police. The man isn’t believed to be armed and reportedly talked to officers on the phone.

Precision Castparts was placed on lockdown in response to the standoff.
