PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 25-year-old Portland State University student returned home Tuesday, days after her family reported her missing.

Earlier in the day, detectives with Washington County Sheriff’s Office said Emily Hooper went missing “on her own volition.”

Emily “is an adult and has the right not to contact the police or her family until she chooses to. For these reasons we are suspending the investigation into her whereabouts at this time,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Family members told investigators they thought Emily went to her boyfriend’s house after a night class at PSU on Thursday, and they weren’t worried about her until he called them Friday night looking for her, according to deputies.

Then Emily’s employer told them she didn’t show up to work on Friday, which is out of character for her.

It’s still unclear why she didn’t return home Thursday night.
