PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The principal at Astor Elementary in Portland is on leave.

While Karl Newsome is on leave, Dana Jacobs will be the acting administrator. Jacobs is a former principal from Rose City Park and Creston schools.

The note sent to families of students said Jacobs would “be the acting administrator for the next few days.”

On October 18, a teacher at the school was investigated by Portland police after being accused of behaving “inappropriately” in class with students.

The unnamed teacher was not arrested.

A few weeks ago, students walked out of class to protest the school’s decision to transfer a new, full-time math teacher to another campus. Students supported him during the walkout by saying he’s done a good job of challenging them.
