Car hydroplanes on I-5, hits tree; driver critical

The 40-year-old driver suffered critical head injuries

COWLITZ COUNTY, Wash. (KOIN) — A car may have hydroplaned and spun off I-5 before hitting a tree in Cowlitz County early Saturday evening, leaving the driver in critical condition.

The crash along northbound I-5 happened near milepost 44 just before 6 p.m., the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office said. The 40-year-old driver of the small car was rushed to PeaceHealth St. John’s Medical Center, then transferred to PeaceHealth Southwest for surgery. Officials said he suffered closed head injuries.

His name has not been released. No one else was injured. The investigation into the crash continues.
