HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN) – The owner of a Forest Grove retirement home pleaded guilty and was sentenced to jail and probation on Friday.

Herbert Sahnow will serve 2 days in jail and 5 years of probation.

He will report to jail in December. If Sahnow violates any condition of his probation, he has upwards of 12 years in prison time hanging over his head, according to Deputy District Attorney Megan Johnson.

Johnson said detectives identified 12 victims. As part of his agreement, Sahnow pleaded guilty to 11 counts of third-degree sexual abuse and one count of attempted third-degree sexual abuse.

According to Johnson, a plea agreement was reached after 11 of the 12 victims indicated that they did not want to participate in a trial. Johnson added that due to Sahnow’s age and health, justice was best served through a plea agreement.

Sahnow has been ordered not to have any contact with female employees of The Elms or women over 65 years old, aside from family members. He is not allowed to approach developmentally disabled women without prior written consent from probation workers.

He was represented by Stephen Houze.
