Manslaughter charge dismissed in deadly crash

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A judge this week ordered the release of a 56-year-old woman accused of second-degree manslaughter in connection to a deadly crash.

Janice Kay Taylor was released from jail on Monday after the DA’s Office filed a motion informing the court that it was unable to proceed with the case.

Taylor was arrested on Oct. 1 following the death of 56-year-old Michael John Simi. She had been charged with second-degree manslaughter, DUII and reckless driving.

According to police, Simi tried to cross NE 181st Ave. at NE Wasco St. when he was hit by an SUV being driven by Taylor.

Taylor remained on scene cooperated with police.

Specific details on why the DA’s Office dismissed the case have not been released.
