PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 59-year-old injured fisherman was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard near Winchester Bay over the weekend.

The man was on a boat and severely injured his arm after being hit by a wave. A Station Umpqua River 47-foot motor life boat crew launched and rescued the injured man.

He was the only person on the boat and lost “excessive” blood, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Once he made it back to shore, the fisherman was taken by EMS to local urgent care.
