HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN) – A former corrections officer has been found guilty of first-degree custodial sexual misconduct.
Brian Joseph Balzer will be sentenced on Nov. 28, according to court records.
Balzer was an employee at the state’s Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. During part of Balzer’s employment he met a woman inmate at the facility.
The investigation revealed that while at Coffee Creek, the two developed a relationship that including kissing, masturbation and oral sex, according to court documents.
The Oregon State Police were assigned to investigate. During their investigation, they found a letter that Balzer wrote to the inmate while she was in prison. Balzer used the fake name “Kalvin K Kane,” according to court documents. OSP found Balzer’s fingerprint on the envelope of the letter.
The woman who made the allegations against Balzer was held in custody for 50 days as a material witness, according to the Oregonian. After the verdict, she was freed.
The paper also reports that Balzer’s defense attorney argued the allegations against his client didn’t add up.
Court records show the jury acquitted Balzer of one count of supplying contraband.
