OAKRIDGE, Ore. (AP) – A truck driver died after the double fuel tanker went off the road, tipped over and caught fire Saturday night.

Kevin Smith of Lakeview was headed east along Highway 58 near Oakridge when the truck went off the road. The 62-year-old was not able to get out of the truck when it became fully engulfed in flames.

The truck was carrying more than 10,000 gallons of fuel, and hazmat crews will be responding for several days.

The Oregon Department of Transportation says the eastbound lane of the Willamette Highway will remain closed for at least several days.

There will be short delays in both directions as equipment is moved on and off the highway. The highway is also known as Oregon Route 58. It runs southeast of Eugene.
