LAFAYETTE, Ore. (KOIN) — A woman’s body found in a blueberry field Sunday afternoon does not appear to be connected to any missing person cases, a fact that is making neighbors nervous.

Late Monday afternoon, the Oregon State Medical Examiner ruled the unidentified woman’s death to be a homicide.

People driving through the area along Highway 99 came across the body around 1:15 p.m., Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies arrived on the scene minutes later.

Oregon State Police’s Forensic Division was called in to help with the investigation. They haven’t been able to identify the woman’s body so far, deputies said.

Anyone with information on the case should call 503.434.7506.

“It’s real surprising. It’s country. Everything is pretty good around here,” neighbor Dennis Rich told KOIN 6 News. “No violence or anything. Pretty normal country living, you know. To see something like this is pretty scary. My wife is getting kind of worried.”

KOIN 6 News will have more information as it becomes available.
