GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN) — A 56-year-old Portland woman faces manslaughter and DUII charges after a man was hit and killed crossing a Gresham street Friday night.

Michael John Simi, 56, was trying to cross NE 181st at Wasco shortly before 10 p.m. when he was hit by a Mercedes SUV.

Investigators said he was in an unmarked crosswalk heading west when the southbound Mercedes hit him. The collision threw him a short distance and he died later at a nearby hospital.

The driver, Janice Kay Taylor, stayed near the scene and cooperated, Gresham police said. The 56-year-old Taylor was booked at the Multnomah County Jail on 2nd-degree manslaughter, reckless driving and DUII charges.

A witness stopped to give some aid to the man, police said. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Gresham PD tip line at 503.618.2719.
