CANON BEACH, Ore. (KOIN) — Volunteers flocked to the Oregon Coast Saturday for the SOLVE Beach and Riverside cleanup on September 24.

More than 4,600 volunteers were out along the coast line for the cleanup and they collected an estimated 61,000 pounds of trash and marine debris from beaches, rivers, neighborhoods, parks and natural areas.

Volunteers also cleared invasive, non-native plants from almost 3 acres of natural areas.

The goal for this cleanup was to collect 32 tons of trash, or the equivalent of 5 of the Oregon Zoo’s Packy.

The fall beach and river cleanup has been going on every year since 1984.
