Armed man surrenders after standoff in San Francisco

Civic Center has been shut down and UN Plaza has been shut down

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — An armed suicidal man has now surrendered to police after a six hour standoff in San Francisco Saturday afternoon.

The suspect surrendered just after 6 p.m. near the Civic Center Plaza.

Around 12:25 p.m., San Francisco police and fire officials responded to reports of a man with a gun in the area of Civic Center and The United Nations Plaza.

Civic Center and the UN Plaza were shut down and evacuated, according to San Francisco fire officials.

Authorities also called for a shelter-in-place while the standoff was going on.

It was not immediately clear if anyone has been injured.

The public is told to avoid the area.

The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a temporary flight restriction over Civic Center Plaza until 11 p.m.
