The crash involved two cars and three patients were taken to the hospital. Two of them had to be extricated from the cars by fire crews. A surgical team from OHSU was nearly called for assistance.

At least one of the people was in critical condition. The people inside the car that went down the embankment are Advanced Security Inc. officers, a regional manager confirmed.

Officials say speed was likely a factor in the crash. Portland Fire Lt. Rich Chatman says crashes on NE Marine Drive are not uncommon.

“We know this is a problem spot,” he told KOIN 6 News.

A cyclist who was riding near the crash said he sees distracted driving on NE Marine Drive everyday as he rides to work.

“I have to be very careful when I’m crossing Marine Drive,” Glenn Woodman told KOIN 6 News. “People are just driving distracted.”

NE Marine Drive reopened before 9 a.m.
