PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A popular square dance caller from Tualatin was arrested Friday in connection with the rape and sex abuse of a young girl, police said.

Charles W. Garner, 55, faces charges of rape, sodomy, sexual abuse and using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, according to Tualatin Police Dept.

Garner, who was a popular square dance caller in Washington and Marion counties for several years, previously pleaded guilty to kidnapping and sex abuse in 1995.

“I’ve known ‘Chuck’ for several years and I know that he had a felony history in the past,” another square dance caller who knows Garner told KOIN 6 News. “I’ve just talked to other people in the square dance community and they weren’t shocked… there was not a lot of love with ‘Chuck’ because of his attitude.”

Garner was allegedly fired from at least one square dance club.

Investigators believe there may be more victims.

Anyone with information on Garner is encouraged to call police at 503.691.4842.
