PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 45-year-old man was killed in a house fire in Kelso on Friday morning.

The man’s ex-wife was outside waiting for a ride when she saw smoke coming from inside the house, but she wasn’t able to get to him in time. She and three dogs escaped the house fire in the 2400 block of Burcham Street.

Firefighters arrived on scene around 3 a.m. to the house fully engulfed in flames.

Kelso firefighters say downed power lines and a collapsing roof prevented them from accessing a side of the house. By the time they located the man, he was already deceased.

The home is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation but officials say it is not suspicious.

The man’s ex-wife was treated for smoke inhalation at a nearby hospital. She’s since been released. A donation fund has been set up for her at Fiber Federal Credit Union under the name Dee Alexandra Wolfe.
