PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A popular food cart is getting the boot from Cartopia on SE Hawthorne after being there for 4 years.

Keena Tallman, the owner of PBJ’s Grilled, said the landlord isn’t renewing the lease that ends in October, but she doesn’t know why. She said Cartopia LLC wrote sent her a letter saying they had been considering it for some time.

The food cart pod is a popular destination and fans of PBJ’s Grilled are sad to see one of their favorites go. Customer say they will follow the cart to its new location.

“Cartopia does not dictate PBJ’s success,” Tallman said. “PBJ’s success is dictated upon customer service. PBJ’s crew and the quality of our sandwiches. That’s what dictates our success.”

Tallman said she has been considering a brick and mortar sandwich shop and this may be a good time to do it. She has also had offers from other food cart pods to relocated there.

Other carts at Cartopia will have the option to renew their leases at the end of October for another 2 years.

Cartopia previously had issues with lease renewals. In 2014, cart owners thought they were going to have to leave because of the potential sale of the property.

According to Mike McKinnon, who was helping run the lot at that time thought it was going to be sold, but it fell through and the carts stayed.

McKinnon also said he doesn’t know why PBJ’s Grilled isn’t able to renew its lease, but he said Cartopia is here to stay.
