TUMALO, Ore. (KOIN) — A Sherwood man was arrested after a crash he was in killed a 2-year-old girl from Bend.
On Sunday at 9:30 a.m., Oregon State Police were called to a 3-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 20 near Tumalo. Authorities said a black 2000 Toyota Tacoma driven by David Fincher, 45, of Sherwood was traveling east when he lost control going around a corner and crossed into the westbound lane of traffic.
He crashed into two separate vehicles driving west, a gray 2014 Volkswagen Jetta and a gray 2016 Dodge Charger, according to Oregon State Police.
The Jetta was being driven by Sarah Peterson, 37, of Bend. It also had two passengers, a 2-year-old girl (who was pronounced dead at the crash site) and a seven-year-old boy, police said.
The Charger was being driven by Alexander Perkins, 28, of Bend and had one passenger identified as Ashley Perkins, 27, of Bend.
Police said the other crash victims were taken to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.
Fincher was arrested and booked into the Deschutes County Jail. He faces a charge of second-degree manslaughter, according to Oregon State Police. The suspect is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting in the investigation.
Oregon State Police are asking for public assistance with the case and looking for any additional witnesses. It is thought a bicyclist west of the crash site was nearly struck by Fincher just before the crash. Anyone with information on that bicyclist’s identity or who has information on the crash is encouraged to contact Oregon State Police at 541-388-6213.
