3-story home destroyed by arson, woman in custody

Damages are estimated around $130,000

HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN) — The inside of a Hillsboro home was destroyed in a fire Sunday, and a woman suspected of arson was taken into custody, officials said.

Neighbors called 911 around 2 p.m. to report a house fire on the 600 block of SE 20th Court, Hillsboro Fire & Rescue said.

Firefighters who arrived on the scene reportedly found heavy flames coming from the lower level of the 3-story wooden-framed house. Flames spread to brush behind the house, endangering neighboring properties and cars.

The fire was under control about 20 minutes after firefighters arrived.

Damages are estimated around $130,000.

Sara Brown, 30, who was alone in the home at the time of the fire, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree arson. Police haven’t revealed a motive.
