Improvements will make for a better commute in Vancouver

If you ever have to merge from SR 500 to I-205 southbound in the mornings, then you’re probably familiar with the regular backup that greets you before you get to the ramp. That will soon change. Beginning Monday, September 12, WSDOT will start restriping portions of southbound I-205 to improve merging and safety at the SR 500 interchange.

“With drivers mostly using two of three lanes on southbound I-205 in this area, we see an opportunity to change the existing configuration to improve traffic,” said WSDOT Traffic Operations Engineer, Scott Langer. “By restriping the exit for southbound I-205 approaching the interchange, drivers from SR 500 will have their own lane for a much easier merge onto the interstate.”

Expect the following nighttime ramp and lane closures so crews can install new signs and restripe the roadway.

– Monday, September 12, to the morning of Tuesday, September 13: The eastbound Padden Parkway on-ramp to southbound I-205 will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Up to two lanes of southbound I-205 will close between Padden Parkway to SR 500 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
– Tuesday, September 13, to the morning of Wednesday, September 14: The southbound I-205 off-ramp to SR 500 will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
– Tuesday, September 13, to the morning of Friday, September 16: A single lane of southbound I-205 will close nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
– Friday, September 16, to the morning of Sunday, September 18: The southbound I-205 off-ramp to SR 500 will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. A single lane of southbound I-205 will close nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
