PPB: DUII driver faces multiple charges in ped crash

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 37-year-old man was allegedly under the influence when he hit a pedestrian in North Portland Wednesday night, police said.

Robert William Leary called police from a nearby gas station after he crashed into 23-year-old Ashley Wirth at N Interstate Avenue near Schmeer Road at 8:45 p.m.

Wirth was reportedly walking against traffic in the bike lane on N Interstate Avenue when Leary hit her with his car. She was seriously injured but is expected to survive.

Leary was arrested for third-degree assault, failure to perform the duties of a driver (hit and run), recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, and DUII.
