VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — The young girl who was found underwater at Paradise Point on August 21 has died, her family told KOIN 6 News.
Sakura Marie Hern was 5-years-old. She was pulled from the water on Saturday afternoon and people performed CPR before she was rushed to the hospital.
A member of the girl’s family confirmed that she was taken off life support on Thursday morning.
Sakura and her 8-year-old sister were visiting their father for the weekend and spent the day at the river.
“This sweet little Sakura was the sunshine in our life,” her great-aunt Simone Compton told KOIN. “She loved to sing and dance to everything even TV commercials. Riding her bike and playing outside. Her big sister Hanako was her BFF.”
Compton extended the family’s gratitude to everyone who tried to save Sakura.
“We want to thank everyone at the park who assisted in trying to save this sweet baby girl,” she said. “All the first responders, bystanders, the whole fifth floor at Randall Children’s Hospital.”
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Sakura’s family with expenses.
