PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 2-alarm fire ripped through a Thai restaurant and a chiropractic office in Northeast Portland Thursday, sending smoke into the air that could be seen for miles.

The Bai Yok Thai restaurant and the chiropractic office of Dr. Richard Krein were severely damaged by the blaze in the area of NE 82nd and Glisan.

An ambulance just happened to be passing by when the fire broke out around 10:30 a.m. and called 911. PF&R crews arrived quickly, but needed to fight the blaze defensively as it was already spreading.

No one was injured. Firefighters say it started on a shared deck area between the 2 buildings, but a cause for the fire has not yet been determined.

“We know there have been other fires in the area, so now it’s a matter of linking the evidence we see at this fire to evidence from other fires,” said Rich Chatman with PF&R. “Or it could be we find out this is just an accidental cause. We have no idea at this point.”
