PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 20-year-old with a suspended license is under arrest for allegedly hitting and killing a teenage girl on Southeast Hawthorne Friday afternoon.
Investigators said the teen, whose name has not been released, was crossing SE Hawthorne around 43rd Avenue when she was hit by a speeding Lexus. She died at the scene.
The driver, Abdulrahman Noorah, was traveling between 55 and 60 mph, investigators said. Noorah was allegedly passing vehicles in the center lane along Hawthorne between 46th and 43rd. Witnesses said the Lexus didn’t stop after hitting the teen.
The Lexus returned to the scene, and police arrested Noorah.
He’s charged with 2nd-degree manslaughter, hit-and-run and reckless driving.
Police said several of the teen’s family members were at the scene and Ranger Station closed their business to allow the teen’s family members a space to gather.
On Saturday afternoon, a small group gathered at the crash site to bring awareness to dangerous driving in the area.
