PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The videotaped interview of a woman accused of killing her toddler will be presented in court for her trial next summer.

Jessica Smith is accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Isabella, by drowning her in a Cannon Beach hotel. She also allegedly slashed her teenage daughter.

Smith’s videotaped confession to police will be used as evidence along with evidence police found in the hotel room. Smith’s defense tried to get that evidence thrown out, but the judge ruled against it.

The interview shows Smith telling police she has nothing to hide and sharing the state of mind she was in in the days after her daughters were found.

“The intention was to drown her and her misery,” Smith said. “She just fell asleep peacefully, went into the water and was gone.”
