BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — A man tried to lure a 14-year-old girl into his car around 2:20 p.m. in Beaverton Friday.

The man was driving an older, slightly beaten up, white minivan near SW Conestoga and SW Downing Streets.

Police say the man kept asking her if she needed a ride and calling her beautiful, which made her uncomfortable. She repeatedly refused his offers until he finally gave up.

“The victim did a great job refusing all of the suspect’s offers which kept her safe,” Beaverton Police said in a statement on Facebook.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s or 40s, with a medium build and short, dark hair.

Beaverton Police say there was an “almost identical” incident in King City along Hwy 99 about an hour before this one.

In that case, King City police say a man pulled up to an 18-year-old and asked her for directions, then asked her to get in his van and show him the way herself for $10. She refused and after he left, she saw him start talking to another young girl.

King City and Beaverton Police are working to determine if these incidents are related. King City police said their witnesses aren’t sure if the van was dirty white or light brown.

“It’s bad if it happens once and it’s even more concerning if it happens more than once,” said Jeremy Shaw, with Beaverton Police. “It leads us to believe there may be more at play here than someone trying to offer someone a ride.”
