PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A California family whose month-long road trip was interrupted when their van was stolen near Washington Park is back on the road after their van was recovered.

The Craig family’s van — and all their belongings, including their car seats for their 2 kids — was stolen Tuesday afternoon from a parked spot on SW Sherwood Boulevard and Carter Avenue while they visited the Rose Garden.

“I don’t think they were campers because they left a lot of our camping gear,” Matt Craig told KOIN 6 News on Thursday. “And I don’t think they were surfers becuase they left our surf boards.”

The van itself was in good shape. But all of their clothes, his wife’s purse and their Kindle are gone.

Despite that, Matt Craig said the family is grateful to everyone who helped find their van.

The Craig family was planning a trip to Washington and Oregon along the coast and beaches. They stayed in a hotel Tuesday night before meeting family in Seattle.

Matt Craig came back to Portland from Seattle to pick up the van. They’re unsure if their long road trip will continue.
