PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A pedestrian was hit while crossing SE 82nd Ave. at 10:07 a.m. on Saturday July 9.

The pedestrian, 76-year-old Ailen Chen, was in an unmarked crosswalk when she was hit. The driver of the truck, 63-year-old Elvin Priest, stayed at the scene and was cooperative.

Chen was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Priest was driving south on 82nd when he made a slow left turn onto SE Franklin. He had almost finished turning when Chen stepped into his path as she tried to cross SE Franklin.

Police say distracted driving does not appear to have been a factor in this incident.

According to Portland police, during the investigation, another pedestrian was hit in the same area. That woman had minor injuries.
