PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man is in custody on Tuesday morning after being involved in a number of car crashes throughout the southwest area of the city.
Police say the man, driving a maroon Buick, crashed into a motorcycle rider at SW 3rd and Madison and then fled the scene. The motorcycle rider was transported by ambulance to a Portland hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police then received a report of a multiple vehicle crash at SW Barbur Boulevard and Hamilton Street. When they arrived on scene, they learned it was the same driver in the maroon Buick. He struck an SUV head on and crashed into two other cars.
Police say he then got out of the car and tried to run away but was Tased by police.
The three other drivers involved in the second crash also were transported by ambulance to Portland hospitals for treatment to serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Traffic Division officers are investigating both crashes.
Traffic in the intersection of Southwest Barbur Boulevard and Hamilton Street is affected but is moving slowly through the area.
