Man faces new charges in deadly Portland shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A grand jury filed 4 new charges against a 48-year-old man who is accused of shooting 2 woman in Old Town – Chinatown.

Thomas Lincoln Dorris appeared in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Wednesday where he was arraigned on the new grand jury indictment.

He is charged with one count of murder, second-degree, third-degree assault, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a firearm.

The assault charges accuse Dorris of shooting a 52-year-old woman in the leg. She survived her injuries.

Police said Dorris shot and Chester Eugene Newborn, 50, during a drug transaction.

It’s not known how the woman who was shot in the leg knows Dorris or Newborn.

According to court records, a not guilty plea was entered on Dorris’ behalf.

His case is scheduled for trial in August, but will almost certainly be pushed back due to court delays.
