WalletHub, an online financial adviser service, does surveys on all kinds of issues. It is owned by Evolution Finance Inc. of Washington, D.C.

For the road trip survey, WalletHub compared the 50 states using nearly two dozen metrics focused on three areas: driving and lodging costs; road conditions and safety; and, fun and scenic attractions.

According to WalletHub, about 77 percent of Americans plan to hit the road this summer.

In addition to being the No. 1 destination, Oregon is tied for third (with Utah) for most scenic byways.
