PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Rose City Garden Railroad Society is holding its annual train tour event on June 18.

For the annual trail tour event, 11 members will show off their own garden railroads to the public. The railroads have been built into authentic looking landscapes.

Bill Derville has 800 feet of track and 90 feet of tunnel in his backyard.

“I never grew up — this is just a wonderful hobby because there’s so many different aspects to it,” Derville said.

Derville has handmade trestles over streams in his landscaping, which is made to look mountainous for his mini replica of the Colorado Southern Railroad.

“The kids will run along with the train — they get so excited about the train,” Derville said of the annual tours. “I don’t have the Thomas the Train out this year because I’m putting batteries in it. Some of the other layouts do have a Thomas.”

Families can pay $10 for a tour booklet with descriptions and directions for each layout.

The event is Saturday June 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and tickets are available at several local hobby shops and garden centers in the Portland area.
